MIUI has embraced many generational changes and overhauls as it evolved over the course of time. It won’t be wrong to say the custom skin is the best Android skin which is both feature-packed and as smooth as the stock Android if not better. The latest MIUI 12 promises new and improved features, smoothness, and at the same offering a visually appealing UI and animations.
In case if you missed the announcement, here is a brief of all major changes introduced in the MIUI 12.
MIUI 12: What’s New?
With the Android 10, animation has been one of the areas where Google focused on. Xiaomi is taking the animation to a next level starting with the MIUI 12, and it’s just one of the improvements. Have a look at some of the newbies in MIUI 12 below.
Refreshed UI
Including minor changes in the icons and widgets, Xioami refreshed its UI with a more flat, materialistic look.
Improved Dark Mode
Xiaomi introduced a system-wide dark mode with the MIUI 10. While the feature has been quite ready and appealing since the beginning, still there had been room for improvement. Xiaomi realized it and have improved the Dark Mode with the MIUI 12 by giving support for more stock apps and visual elements. The Dark Mode 2.0 brings wallpaper dimming seen on OneUI and font adjustment to make the text easier to read and reduce eye strain.
Catchy App Launch Transitions/Animations
Xiaomi claims of the MIUI 12 to be a reconstruction made from the bottom. Xiaomi worked diligently on animation by bringing certain dynamic effect architecture, including animation engine, rendering engine, and illustration. The engine is said to be the first time that the animation effects of the Android system are comparable to those of iOS.
Live wallpapers and lock-screen animation
Zoom in from a space view to an aerial shot each time you unlock your phone.
Improved Privacy Management
Privacy is yet another area where Xioami has done a reinforcement with MACE. Now you can keep track of your apps’ behavior and will show you the ones that abuse permissions. In addition, Xiaomi is implementing a new virtual ID security protocol that prevents suspicious apps from accessing vital information from your device.
Other Features
New accessibility features such as AI Calling which can transcribe calls and suggest responses during conversations for hearing impaired users.
Mi Health which is now official, promises improved activity tracking using AI and machine learning approach.
Other features include; Always-on display functionality and floating windows similar to the one seen on Samsung software ages ago. Gesture navigation now adopts the stock Android 10 approach and Xiaomi has an improvised notification panel with its new quick reply feature. Moreover, there are around 12 camera improvements in MIUI 12.
Undeniably, Xiaomi, as usual, has put in more effort to make its new MIUI release different from the competitors. Indeed, the MIUI is one of the best custom android skins available to date and Xiaomi can be proud of it. Last but not the least, MIUI 12 closed beta testing is now live for Chinese users while the stable build is scheduled to release in June. As of the global MIUI release, there should be a slight variation in the timings.
