Dimensity 820 vs Snapdragon 765G

MediaTek’s latest creations belong to the Dimensity series instead of the Helio series. The Dimensity 1000 / 1000+ and Dimensity 820 / 800 chips gradually appear on various smartphones that make a tough competition to the top models. They are considered to be the best options in terms of 5G performance, power consumption, viewing experience, etc. But they are not unique on the market. We mean no one should forget or ignore Qualcomm and its chipsets. In the high-end market, it offers the Snapdragon 865, while in the mid-range niche, it contrasts the Snapdragon 765G and Snapdragon 768G. Today, one of the Weibo bloggers brought a video showcasing an app cold start test. It seems the Dimensity820 chip leaves no chances to the Snapdragon765G.

Dimensity 820

The Dimensity 820 processor uses four big cores and four small cores. The large A76 cores have a clock speed of 2.6GHz, and the small core uses A55 cores. The company claim that its single-core score is 7% higher than Qualcomm 765G. In Antutu, it scored 37% higher, reaching 410,000.

The MediaTek Dimensity 820 processor uses the Mali-G57 MP5 GPU, the same Valhall architecture as the Dimensity 1000+, and also cooperates with the HyperEngine 2.0 game engine to improve game performance.

This processor uses the same APU architecture as the Dimensity 1000+. It also has the independent AI processor APU3.0 to make AI video gameplay richer.

Dimensity 820

We learned that the Dimensity 820 claims to be equipped with the world’s most advanced M70 5G baseband. It supports NSA/SA, 5G + 5G dual card dual standby as well as 5G dual-carrier aggregation. It also comes with an exclusive UltraSave 5G power saving technology. MediaTek said that the 5G power consumption of the Dimensity 820 is lower than that of 765G. And the speed is faster while the delay is smaller.

In addition, the Dimensity 820 supports MediaTek Imagiq 5.0 image processing technology. It uses 4-core HDR-ISP, supports up to 80MP multi-camera combination, and can shoot multiple frames of 4K HDR video. This SoC comes with the exclusive MediaTek MiraVision image quality engine, which supports a maximum screen refresh rate of 120Hz and HDR10+.

Snapdragon 765G

The Snapdragon 765G is almost the same as the Snapdragon 730 because there aren’t any major architectural changes to the CPU cores. But the manufacturer has added a new ‘Prime’ CPU core cluster, which has a lone core clocked at up to 2.4GHz. There’s also a lone ‘Performance’ core clocked at up to 2.2GHz. These two are based on its customized Kryo 475 architecture, which is derived from the ARM Cortex-A76 design. Lastly, there are 6 ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency CPU cores at up to 1.8GHz. So we can say the architecture of the Snapdragon 765 is 1+1+6 compared to 2+6 on the Snapdragon 730.

The newest Adreno 620 GPU in the Snapdragon 765G offers 20% improved performance and efficiency compared to the Adreno 618 GPU in the Snapdragon 730. Also, Qualcomm added HDR10+ and Dolby Vision video playback support.

However, the key parameter of the Snapdragon 765G is support for on-device displays up to FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Qualcomm continues improving the AI performance in the Snapdragon 700 series with the introduction of their 5th generation AI Engine and a newer Hexagon Tensor Accelerator in the Snapdragon 765G. Overall, the Snapdragon 765G SoC is capable of 5.5 TOPS (trillions of operations) performance, closing in on the Snapdragon 855’s 7 TOPS performance.

The manufacturer also said the Snapdragon 765G’s Spectra 355 ISP is capable of processing 192MP photos. Plus, the Spectra 355 is capable of processing slow-motion 720p videos at 480fps. In addition, the Spectra 355 adds support for video capture in HDR10+.

Snapdragon 765G

The Snapdragon 765G is Qualcomm’s first SoC with integrated 5G, meaning the 5G modem is on the die. As a result, we get a lower power consumption. The Snapdragon X52, like the Snapdragon X55, is a multi-mode modem. Simply put, it is capable of 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, and 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave) connections.

Generally, the Snapdragon 765G is the same 765 but with a CPU and GPU improvement and aiming at gaming phones. Plus, it comes with a Snapdragon Elite Gaming features (Game Smoother, Game Fast Loader, Game Network Latency Manager, Jank Reducer 2.0, Predictive Game Auto Tuner)
