Whether you’re a gaming enthusiast or not this is one laptop you cannot afford to ignore and that should become obvious once you get your hands on one. It’s beauty right from the appearance and that’s not to say it’s flashy, no not at all. We’re referring to the dark gray color scheme and RGB elements accentuation.
The laptop comes on a solid base. The display is designed in such a manner that it’s absolutely beautiful and impressive to look. And for the most part that’s due to the materials used which is mostly aluminum. The Lenovo Legion Y740-17IRHg comes in a number of different configurations. Ours is an Intel Core i7-9750H. We’ve seen an Intel Core i9-9880H power beast as well that boasts 8 cores for some serious computing heavy lifting. Ours comes with a modest 6 core but is still phenomenal.
Performance
Most gamers will find the system on chip (SoC) enough for the majority of existing games. They’ll be mesmerized by the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q super performance. We tested it and found that it’s capable of impressive frame rates necessary for games and is currently the top GPU design configuration of this model. We found that the Legion Y740-17IRHg delivers very smooth performance running the latest games at the top settings. That includes excellent frame rates with almost no lag.
Our version is equipped with super-fast NVMe SSD expandable to 1 TB and 16 GB RAM. It is sufficient for most gamers. Die-hard gamers that need more storage should be able to install an additional drive in the spare 2.5-inch slot made exclusively for that purpose. The only shortfall with the Legion Y740-17IRHg is the battery life but its fans run almost silent even under strenuous loads and high-frequency emission kept at a minimum. Top of the line GPU configuration of the Legion Y740-17IRHg can be bought for just under $2972 or €2700 but just to note. The current configuration we used for testing did match the costlier one in most aspects. However, our tests were limited in scope and didn’t explore every performance parameter of the Y740-17IRHg. It’s not an easy task to compare the performance of different laptop especially for new buyers who are not very tech-savvy.
