In the consumer market today, the competition with regards to mobile smart phones is extremely intense. There has always been a battle between which is better, Android or Apple. Nowadays, with the rapid rate at which technology is advancing, it really boils down to a matter of personal preference and what the individual is accustomed to. For Android users, it is claimed that there is almost unlimited customisation available, when compared to Apple. However, there are many users who are totally unaware or have forgotten about some features that can be very useful. Therefore, it’s worth making sure you are familiar with at the very least our four settings below.
Rotate the home screen
This is a feature that many people aren’t aware Android has the capability to do, as within an app, you just need to flip your phone to go from portrait to landscape, or vice versa. This is a very useful feature that really comes in handy especially when enjoying your favourite games, for which gamers like mFortune mobile bingo players will testify to; as the bigger screen makes a huge difference. For the home screen, however, you need to enable this manually. Enjoy more customisation by heading to the Home Settings screen and turn Allow Home Screen rotation on. If it is greyed out, you will need to unlock screen orientation in Settings > Display Auto-rotate screen.
Screen Pinning
Lock one app or a process to your screen, and then your device will need to be unlocked before anything else can be accessed. This is very useful, you might be showing a work colleague a document and you can have assurance they won’t access anything you don’t want them to see. Head to System Settings, Security and Screen Pinning and enable it here. Tap the overview key (the square icon below the screen) and push the onscreen cards high up. You will then see a pin icon, just tap it and that app is now pinned. You will now need to enter your passcode, fingerprint or facial recognition for the device to be unlocked.
Ringtones For Specific Contacts
Maybe you are in a meeting and don’t want to be disturbed, but you’d like to take the call if it’s your boss or a family member. You can use specific ringtones for any contact and assign it to them. Go to Contacts and select the desired contact, press the three dots on top and choose Select Ringtone and you’re good to go. Set ringtones for the most important people in your life; it’s useful for when you don’t want to be disturbed but would be happy to take the call for someone important.
Run Apps Side By Side
This is a very useful feature, allowing you to view multiple photos at once, social network on more than one platform at the same time, and view more than one webpage at once. To set up this feature, tap the overview key and from here select two of your most recently used apps. Hold and drag the title bar of the first app to the top of the display. You will then see room to drag another one next to it. Drag another app alongside it and enjoy multitasking.
