Flash TWRP on Redmi Note 8 Pro
- First, we’ve to flash the TWRP on Redmi Note 8 Pro in order to root. In case if you don’t know, the device has official TWRP builds, with the latest 3.4 available.
- Since the device uses Android Verified Boot (AVB), installing TWRP or swiping to allow system modifications will prevent you from being able to boot. To bypass AVB, you will have to disable it or install a custom ROM that ships with disabled AVB.
- To disable AVB via fastboot, grab the vbmeta image from the ROM you are on, and flash it with the following command:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
AVB should be now disabled on your device. So, let’s get into the fast boot Install Method for TWRP
- Windows users will need proper drivers installed on their computer. You can try the simple FWUL adb/fastboot ISO or the Naked ADB drivers or the Universal ADB drivers if you don’t already have a working driver installed.
Disclaimer: Bootloader unlock may erase your data. So backup all the necessary data before proceeding. Be cautious while rooting as it may end up your device useless. We won’t be responsible if your device malfunction or get bricked. Proceed further at your own risk!
- On your device, go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings.
- Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging.
- Most importantly, enable OEM unlocking and apply for the same on here.
- From your computer, open a command prompt and type:
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode. - Download the correct TWRP image file and save the file to an appropriate location on your PC. preferrable on desktop. Rename the image to twrp.img and type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
- Wait for the command prompt to finish flashing. Once it’s done, input
fastboot reboot.
Important: Modern devices will replace the custom recovery automatically during first boot. To avoid happening that, find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, immediately hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don’t follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.
Now, the TWRP should be flashed successfully on your device. Once you boot to TWRP, it’s time to flash the Magisk or in other words root the device.
Root Redmi Note 8 Pro Using Magisk
- Reboot to TWRP
- In TWRP swipe to allow modification and then go to Wipe > Format Data > “yes”.
- Here only, you can root by flashing Magisk via TWRP
- From TWRP Main menu go to Install > Choose the latest Magisk saved on your device external SD card and confirm to flash.
- Finally, reboot to System
That’s it, Magisk should be installed on your Redmi Note 8 Pro. Install a Root Checker app on your device to check the root.
