Unlock bootloader LG-G8X-ThinQ

LG today added official support to unlock the bootloader of LG V60 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ, V50s ThinkQ, and LG G8S. All the four LG smartphones are flagship devices and now you can unlock their bootloader to install custom ROMs on them. It’s important to tell you that the bootloader unlocking of LG V60 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ, V50s ThinkQ, and LG G8S only unlocked variants of these models are supported. Prerequisites

Steps to Unlock the Bootloader of LG V60, LG V50S, and LG G85

  1. To start the process unlock the bootloader of LG V60, V50S, and G85 head over to the LG’s bootloader unlock page. Click on the “Starting Unlocking the Bootloader” button at the bottom.
  2. After that, you have to log into your account and click on “I Accept” the term and conditions. Now, your name and email address will be displayed.
  3. Enter the first 15 digits of your phone’s IMEI number. You can see the IMEI number of your device by going through settings> About Phone> Status> IMEI or you can simply Dail “*#06#” to see the IMEI number of your phone.
  4. Enter the Device ID of your phone. To view the phone’s Device ID you have to connect your phone to the PC via USB. Now, Open the Powershell or CMD prompt by pressing SHIFT+Right Click in the folder where you installed ADB and Fastboot.

    • Enter the command written below to boot your phone into Fastboot mode.
      adb reboot bootloader
    • To get the Device ID of your phone to enter the following command.
      fastboot oem device-id
      • Above command will return the 2 lines of character string output as Device-ID, you can see that below.
        Example Device ID (PC User)$ fastboot oem device-id

    • To generate a unique unlock key place the 2 lines of character strings together into one continuous string and that will be your Device ID.
  5. Click confirm if the IMEI number and Device ID of your phone are valid. After that, the unlock key will be sent to your email.
  6. Download the unlock key to PC and again connect your phone will PC via USB and boot your device into the Fastboot mode by entering the command written below.
    adb reboot bootloader
  7.  To unlock the bootloader of your phone using a unique unlock key you have to enter the command written below.
    fastboot flash unlock unlock.bin
    
    • unlock.bin” is the unlock key that you received in the email.
  8. Reboot your phone by entering the following command.
    fastboot reboot
    
  9. That’s it your phone’s bootloader is unlocked now. Still, if you want to check it. Then again boot your phone in fastboot mode first by entering the below-written command.
    adb reboot bootloader
    
    • After that to check if the device is successfully unlocked by entering the command written below.
      fastboot getvar unlocked
      • If the phone is unlocked successfully then the result of the above-written command will be “unlocked: yes”
