OPPO RTK

On October 24, OPPO announced the launch of its self-developed, industry-leading RTK high-precision positioning algorithm. The latter can achieve high-precision positioning with an accuracy of less than 1 meter. Of course, this technology will be available on upcoming OPPO smartphones. We should wait for it in 2021.

The full name of RTK is ‘real-time kinematic’. This is a technology based on carrier phase observation. It processes the observation data between measurement stations in real time and removes errors in a differential manner to achieve higher precision positioning.

In the past, this technology was mainly used in the field of surveying and mapping. OPPO has performed a lot of tuning work in combination with smartphone usage scenarios and antenna configuration conditions. It adds an acceleration sensor, a gyroscope and other smartphone sensor information on the basis of the navigation chip. Through self-developed high-precision positioning algorithm, it comprehensively judges the location of the smartphone and eliminates interference, getting more accurate results.

Not only that, in order to better implement the technology, OPPO has carried out close cooperation with China Mobile in the technology pre-research stage.

At the same time, OPPO has also joined the ‘5G Precision Positioning Alliance’ of China Mobile. In the future, it will use the OPPO RTK high-precision positioning algorithm based on the satellite navigation ground-based enhancement system that China Mobile is deploying nationwide to jointly promote the high-precision positioning technology ecology with industry partners.

Liu Chang, Vice President of OPPO and Dean of the Research Institute, said: ‘As 5G integration of everything gradually becomes a reality, various intelligent application scenarios have also put forward higher requirements for the accuracy of indoor and outdoor positioning.’

From the perspective of user experience, OPPO applies RTK technology to the smartphone side through self-developed algorithms. It will significantly improve the positioning accuracy of smartphones. For this technology, we have also launched a long-term and in-depth cooperation with China Mobile, hoping to bring a brand new experience to users as soon as possible.

‘We believe that this technology will bring more convenience to users’ lives and also bring more possibilities for new application scenarios.’
