Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series is one of the most successful product lineups during the last 10 years. The Chinese smartphone giant has consistently delivered affordable smartphones with good hardware. But, ever since the 5G bandwagon came into play, the ever so popular Redmi Note phones didn’t have a 5G product to its name. Despite that, it still grew in numbers over the years. However, earlier today, Xiaomi has officially launched two 5G smartphones among its new Redmi Note 9 5G series along with Redmi Note 9 4G.

Redmi Note 9 5G: Specifications
The Redmi Note 9 5G is powered by Mediatek’s Dimensity 800U SoC. According to the event, its AnTuTu score was 345370. It is coupled with up to 8GB RAM based on LPDDR4X and up to 256GB of internal storage based on UFS 2.2. On top of it, this phone supports 5G+5G dual SIM support and the ability to switch between 5G networks. The device runs on MIUI 12 out of the box.
Moving towards the front, it houses a 6.53″ FHD+ LCD display supporting 60Hz refresh rate. For optics, it has triple-camera set up at the back which includes a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro camera. Whereas, at the front, it houses a 13MP camera for selfies.
Lastly, the device draws its power from a 5000mAh battery which supports 22.5W fast charging. It weighs around 192g. Additional features include the likes of IR blaster, Bluetooth, Z-axis linear motion, Stereo speakers, 3.5mm headphone jack.
Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G: Specifications
The Redmi Note 9 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G SoC. It is coupled with up to 8GB RAM based on LPDDR4X and up to 256GB of internal storage based on UFS 2.2. On top of it, this phone supports a singular 5G SIM support, unlike the non-pro variant. The device runs on MIUI 12 out of the box.
One of the most important aspects of this smartphone is its display. Redmi Note 9 Pro is equipped with a 6.67″ FHD+ LCD display along with 120Hz refresh rate (30~120Hz multi-speed variable speed). On top of that, the device also offers a flagship-level touch sampling rate of 240Hz for a smooth gaming experience.
For optics, the Redmi Note 9 Pro houses a quad-camera setup at the rear which includes a Samsung HM2 108MP sensor as its primary camera. Moreover, the sensor features 0.7μm pixel technology, 1/1.52 inch outsole, 15% smaller than HMX/HM1, support 9 pixels in one output 12 million pixel photos and it is equivalent to 2.1μm. Apart from that, it has an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Whereas, at the front, it gets a 16MP camera for selfies.
Lastly, the device draws its power from a 4820mAh battery which supports 33W fast charging. It weighs around 215g. Additionally, it features Type-C, NFC, IR blaster, Bluetooth, Z-axis linear motion, Stereo speakers, 3.5mm headphone jack. On the other hand, the device is protected by double-sided Gorilla Glass 5 glass which is wear-resistant and scratch-resistant. It gets an IP53 rating for dust/splash-proof.
Redmi Note 9 4G: Specifications
As per the previous report, this is indeed identical to Poco M3 in terms of hardware. The Redmi Note 9 4G is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC which is based on 11nm architecture. It is also coupled with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB internal storage based on UFS 2.2 storage. Further, you can also expand the storage via a dedicated microSD card slot which is expandable up to 512GB.
Moving towards the front, the device flaunts a 6.53″ FHD+ LCD display along with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It features a 90.34% screen to body ratio along with 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution.
For optics, the device is equipped with a triple camera setup which includes a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Whereas, at the front, the device houses an 8MP camera for selfie.
Lastly, the draws its power from a massive 6000mAh battery which supports 18W quick charge. Additionally, the company also included features such as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual speakers, IR blaster. Whereas, for connectivity, it features Dual SIM support, VoLTE support, Bluetooth 5.1, and Wi-Fi.
Pricing and availability
The Redmi Note 9 5G series is currently available for pre-booking across China. However, its sale will commence from December 1 onwards. However, the smartphone is currently available only in China, we can expect the Redmi Note 9 5G series to be officially launched globally by January 2021.
