Samsung Galaxy S20 FE released, starting at $699

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) has just been released. Pre-orders will be opened today and sales will start on October 2.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is available in LTE and 5G versions. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G uses the Snapdragon 865 chipset, while the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G comes with an Exynos 990. Compared with the regular S20 model, there are three changes: screen, camera, and battery.

Let’s take a look at the screen first. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE uses a Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display, which is 6.5 inches, between S20 (6.2 inches) and S20+ (6.7 inches). But the resolution is 1080p+. This screen has also passed HDR10+ certification, and supports 120Hz refresh rate.

Although the diagonal of the screen is 0.2 inches smaller, the display is flat. So the size of the Galaxy S20 FE is about the same as that of the S20+. It is two millimeters shorter and one millimeter wider. The phone body is dust-proof and waterproof to IP68.

The triple-camera on the back of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE uses the 12-megapixel main camera on the S20, with a large 1/1.76″ sensor and 1.8 micron pixels size. It also supports dual-pixel autofocus, and optical image stabilization (OIS). The telephoto camera is new, with an 8MP sensor (1.0 micron pixels). It supports OIS, f/2.4, providing 3x optical zoom and up to 30x spatial zoom. The 64MP sensor of S20/S20+ is gone. This means that FE cannot record 8K video. The third camera is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle CMOS that can cover a 123° field of view.

The selfie camera is different. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE uses a 32-megapixel sensor (0.8 micron pixels) and supports 4-in-1 pixels.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has a built-in 4500mAh battery, which has the same capacity as the S20+. It also supports 25W fast charging. But you need to purchase a separate charger because the package only contains a 15W charger. It supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy S20 FE supports under-screen fingerprint solution, Samsung’s unique MST function (which can be used with terminals that do not support NFC). It also supports AKG tuning stereo speakers with Dolby audio technology.

This phone will have single- and dual-card versions, with a microSD card slot. But the latter will replace SIM2, and eSIM may be used in some markets.

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G has 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB storage space. It supports sub-6 and faster mmWave 5G (and NSA and SA).

The Galaxy S20 FE has only one configuration, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. In addition, both versions support Wi-Fi 6 and wireless screen mirroring. The following colors will be available: cloud red, cloud orange, cloud lavender, cloud mint, cloud navy and cloud white. Some colors may not be available in all countries and all configurations of S20 FE.

The price of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the US market starts at US$699. And the price of the European LTE/5G model is 649 euros /749 euros.
