Tonight, VIVO officially launched the new “Slim and Light Selfie Flagship” VIVO S9. This phone is the company’s thinnest 5G phone, priced at 2,999 yuan (8GB+128GB) / 3299 yuan (12GB+256GB), and will go on sale across the board on March 12.
VIVO S9 Design
The VIVO S9 has broken the record of the thinnest 5G smartphone of VIVO, reaching a thickness of 7.35mm. The body is designed with a straight-edge middle frame and the middle frame is made of mirrored aviation aluminum (with a yield strength greater than 400MPa).
The VIVO S9 uses Samsung’s 6.44-inch 90Hz refresh rate AMOLED screen, with new color combinations such as “Impression Pickup”, “Midnight Blue” and “Chao Dew White”.
VIVO S9 Camera
The S9 adopts a front dual-camera solution, including a 44MP main camera (S5KGH1, 1/2.65″, 0.7μm, F2.0) and an 8MP 105° ultra-wide-angle portrait lens (HI846, 1/ 4″, F2.28). It supports a precise autofocus function. The rear camera module consists of a 64MP main camera (S5KGW3, 1/1.97″, 0.7μm, F1.79, OIS) + 8MP ultra wide-angle (OV8856, 1/ 4″, F2.2) + 2MP black and white (OV02B10, 1/5″, F2.4) sensors combination.
In addition, the VIVO S9 also supports AI extreme night mode and 3D five-fold super-texture beauty, sports capture, black light night vision and other functions. It has fun and beautiful shooting methods, such as short video VLOG, double exposure 2.0 (cloud co-shooting), and smart tracking.
VIVO S9 Performance
Inside, the phone carries a MediaTek Dimensity 1100 chip. It is not only the first to come with this chip but also has the new 128-layer Samsung UFS 3.1 flash storage. It uses the Goodix under-screen fingerprint solution. The handset also supports Wi-Fi 6, but doesn’t support dual 5G standby.
VIVO S9’s AnTuTu score reached 600,000 points, an increase of 85% over the previous generation. The Dimensity 1100 chip adopts TSMC’s advanced 6nm EUV process, and its logic density is increased by 18% compared to the previous generation. It includes four A78 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.6GHz and an ARM G77 architecture GPU with up to 9 cores. The total CPU score is increased by 52% compared with the previous generation. The GPU total score increased by 140%.
In other aspects, the VIVO S9 runs the new OriginOS based on Android 11. It has passed the 36-month aging model standard certification of Tell Labs. There is also an ultra-thin VC soaking plate, which reduces the thickness by 12.5%, and the heat dissipation area of the whole machine is increased by 136%.

In addition, the company also launched the VIVO S9e. It sports the MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip. The front and rear use 2.5D glass and flat middle frame design. The handset features a 90Hz refresh rate screen, a 32MP front camera, a rear 64MP triple-camera, a built-in 4100mAh battery, which supports 33W flash charge. The 8+128GB version costs 2399 yuan ($371) and the 8+256GB version costs 2699 yuan ($417).
