Major manufacturers seem to plan crazy upgrades in terms of camera functions. Not only the Huawei P40 Pro+ and the Samsung U20 Ultra have brought 100x digital zoom but Xiaomi also announced that new phone with a 120x digital zoom will soon arrive. According to sources who are familiar with the matter, Huawei is already developing a new handset that supports 150x digital zoom. Although it did not disclose more details, most likely, it will debut in the first quarter of 2021. Of course, this new product will come our way from the Huawei P series.

150x periscope zoom

Huawei first implemented the 60x digital zoom function on the P30 Pro. It not only caused a sensation at the time but also led to a crazy upgrade in the industry. Subsequently, the Samsung S20 Ultra and the Huawei P40 Pro+ came with 100x periscope lenses. Xiaomi is also preparing to launch a new machine with a digital zoom up to 120 times soon as its main selling point.

However, Huawei seems unwilling to be led by its opponents and plans to release models with higher zoom ratios in the future. It turns out Huawei is developing a new machine that supports 150x digital zoom.

Will it upgrade the telephoto lens?

Since the Huawei P40 Pro+ has adopted a multi-reflection periscope telephoto camera and supports 10x optical zoom, the future upgrade direction should be shifted to the telephoto lens. It has a high-pixel telephoto like the one on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. The lens achieves a higher digital zoom function through cropping. It can also avoid the drawbacks of the camera module being too large.

Huawei P

In addition, whether the future Huawei P series will be equipped with the next generation Kirin processor or the legendary Snapdragon 875 chip, it will definitely be upgraded in ISP. So it will also provide hardware support for the realization of the 150 digital zoom function. From this, it can be expected that the future Huawei P series will definitely take another step in photography. And once again, it will occupy the leading position in the ranking of DxOMark.

Under-screen camera

The new Huawei P series machine may also use the under-screen camera technology for the first time. It’s been previously stated on Weibo that both Huawei and VIVO are pre-developing the under-screen camera. Moreover, progress is quite good. It is estimated this technology will not be available soon. But by the time the Huawei P series is launched in the first quarter of next year, it should be no problem for commercial use.
